Jury Duty – Hillgrove v. Morris (Comic Interlude)
Official trailer – Amazon Prime TV.
It’s Sunday, wrapping up trial preparation for a bench trial tomorrow, and wanted to take a brief detour from our regularly scheduled programming.
I watched the entire season of Jury Duty (the show) this past week and finished it last night.
Oh my god, it is must-see TV, especially for anyone who has ever tried a jury trial. It has nothing to do with eminent domain or just compensation or any of the frequent topics of our blog here at McKirdy Riskin Olson & DellaPelle PC.
The trial takes place in a real Courthouse in Los Angeles County. The hero of the show is an ordinary person who shows up for jury duty and thinks he’s been picked to serve on a real jury for a real civil trial. Everyone else in the Courthouse is an actor: The judge, bailiff, sheriff’s officers, security, jurors, lawyers, are all actors. No spoiler alerts here, but the trial takes almost a month to complete.
It is absolutely hilarious, and again, is particularly funny if you’ve tried a civil jury trial (anywhere in the United States). Does it provide insight into the deliberative process behind the door? Perhaps.
Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.
